Before installing your ProtectivGear Car Door Protector Bumper Kit reclaim your garage space with these organization tips.
The garage is one of the most neglected areas of the home. Do you have lots of clutter taking up valuable space? Has your car never seen the inside of your garage? If you've answered yes, then it is time to take charge of that clutter and get rid of it. Set a time for you and your family to tackle the mess of the garage together. Everyone in the home has some level of attachment to the items in there, so make it a group activity.
- Start by sorting through everything in the garage by putting it in two piles on the driveway. Items to keep and items to throw away. If the items you want to throw away are in good shape, have a garage sale or give them away to a charity.
- Sort everything in the "keep" pile by its use. Create small piles of garden tools, sporting equipment, toys, holiday decorations, etc. If you have many large items like bikes, a lawn mover, as now blower, a pre-built shed may be an option for you to house all those large items. Lowes and Home Depot are two places that offer storage sheds for sale as well as an installation service. The best part is that moving these large items to a more appropriate place frees up lots of room for your car.
- At this stage, you now need to think about how to organize the items when you put them back in your garage. Depending on the amount of stuff you have left, decide whether a storage system or a few individual products are needed. Home improvement stores are a good place to start. Look for storage systems that match your needs. There are many storage systems on the market today, but I have found an article that reviews the two most popular ones, Gladiator and Rubbermaid. Also, in June 2006, Consumer Reports gave these two systems top ratings.
- Once your storage system is in place and before putting all the items back in the garage, thoroughly sweep and clean the floor. Once the floor is in good shape and free of stains, either finish the concrete with an epoxy coating to make it durable, easy to clean, and stain resistant or apply appropriate flooring like rubber matting or garage floor tiles.
When everything is back in the garage and organized, doing a little maintenance now and then will help keep that garage in order. Schedule a weekend at least once a year to keep things looking as good as they do now.
Enjoy your new garage!
